Come and join us for a night of fun and at the same time help raise funds for this great cause. Tickets (per table) - $300. The maximum number of persons per table is ten (10). BYO supper. Who we are and what we do
Australian Sponsorship for African Kids, located in Adelaide, is a charitable foundation dedicated to supporting African kids by financially supporting Nana’s House, a day centre in Chorkor, Ghana that is administered and staffed by NGO BASICS International. Without Nana’s House, children would be on the streets and the beaches unable to escape the cycle of poverty, illiteracy, child labour, and teenage pregnancy. Also, for many of the 100 children that visit daily, this is the only opportunity to have a hot nutritional meal.
With the education, health training and skills training they receive at Nana’s House, before and after school, they are able to turn their lives around. They receive assistance with their homework and private tutoring. They also participate in extracurricular activities including computer training, sewing, music and dance, cooking, art, poetry, sports, drama and filmmaking.
A message from the Chair
Welcome to the AS4AK website. Formed in March 2007, the charity continues to fulfil its goal of raising money for underprivileged African children.
Our primary purpose is providing financial support to Nana’s House, a day centre in Chorkor, Ghana that is administered and staffed by NGO BASICS International. Without Nana’s House, children would be on the streets and the beaches unable to escape the cycle of poverty, illiteracy, child labour, and teenage pregnancy.
The children attend Nana’s House before and after school, where they are given education, health training and skills training. Their extracurricular activities are many and varied. They include computer training, sewing, music, dance, cooking, art, poetry appreciation, sports, drama and filmmaking. Also, for many of the 100 children that visit daily, this is the only opportunity to have a hot nutritional meal.
All Board members volunteer our time and services. AS4AK has no overheads or operational costs - apart from the unavoidable bank fees and insurance premiums. Every dollar raised is applied directly for the benefit of the children.
Our fundraising activities have included film nights, a quiz and garden visits, but we are fortunate to also receive generous donations from individuals and corporate sponsors. If you are interested in being a sponsor or donating, please contact us.

Providing safe education space for kids
BASICS is a safe haven Day Centre based at Chorkor, a poor, deprived suburb in Accra, for children in the surrounding fishing communities where schooling and teenage pregnancies are a problem and increase daily due to poverty and ignorance. The children attending the Centre range in age from 6 to 24 years.
At least 100 children visit the safe haven each day for assistance with their homework and for private tutoring. They also participate in extracurricular activities including computer training, sewing, music and dance, cooking, art, poetry, sports, drama andfilmmakingg among other activities.
The house itself (that our past fundraising has helped to build) is a three-storey facility comprising a computer lab, a sewing room, home economics and catering kitchen, a library and more recently a music studio.

for better future
One of the main reasons Australian Sponsorship for African Kids was founded was to fundraise money to support an initiative such as Nana House, a multi-function education facility and the associated provision of a before and after school academic and vocational program, in the poor fishing village of Chorkor, Accra in Ghana.
